A quality statement that promises commitment to excellence prevents nothing. The failures found in the supply of materials are familiar and repetitive: the certificate that specifies the heat on the item incorrectly, the grade that looks similar to the original because it does not differ on the surface, the cut length without any marking, and the requirement for an impact for the pipe which has been simply forgotten during bolting. This quality policy for a piping supplier is written as the controls against those, and it should be read alongside the MTC and EN 10204 guide.
1. Material Is Supplied Against the Governing Document
Where an enquiry carries an operator or EPC material specification, the offer and the supply are made against that document, not against the ASTM or API minimum alone. Where a project is qualified against a specific edition of a standard, that edition is stated on the order and on the certificate.
Material that is standard compliant but specification non-compliant is treated as non-conforming.
Scope Note for Client Approval
This document is drafted as a policy statement for Oman Piping Solution to adopt. Management system certifications, accreditations and registrations are deliberately not referenced, because they have not been confirmed. Where such certifications are held, they belong on the certifications page and can be referenced here once provided.
Quality Policy FAQ
What certification is supplied as standard?
EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates, with 3.2 certificates supplied where ordered. A 3.2 requires witnessed testing and has to be arranged before production.
How is traceability maintained when material is cut?
By transfer marking recorded at the time of the cut, so the piece carries its identification across the cut rather than losing it.
What are the stated limits of positive material identification?
It cannot separate grades that differ by a mechanical property rather than chemistry, such as A106 Grade B and A333 Grade 6, and it cannot separate Grade 91 from Grade 92 with standard portable equipment.
How is non-conforming material handled?
It is identified, segregated and reported to the buyer. An alternative is offered as a deviation with the difference stated, not supplied as a like-for-like replacement.
Is an EN grade accepted against an ASTM callout?
Only as an approved deviation. Chemistry ranges, test temperatures and delivery conditions differ, so it is not treated as a translation.
Why does inspection scope need to be agreed early?
Because it affects the release sequence at the mill, so a requirement raised after the order changes the schedule rather than just the paperwork.
Discuss Quality Requirements
Send the governing specification, the certification type and the inspection scope with the enquiry. Those three settled at the start prevent the majority of documentation non-conformances, which cause more delay on site than material defects do.
